Class trip

Hey all,
I decided to get productive by putting up another posting. Must be feeling guilty.
In any case, remember I mentioned about digging up an album of some of the pictures from our school days.
I found this one. I think this one was taken when we were on a field trip to Sepilok though I can't remember the year. Could be in 1979 or 1980.
Unfortunately this one is not too clear because I re-shot the picture with my camera and tried my best to improve the image quality which still not amounted to much. Oh well.
But among those in the picture is Lu Wai Leong, David Leong, yours truly, Tong Wai Cheong, Ahmad Lazuardi, Mike Govind and I think part of Jewan Singh.

I hope to get more pictures scanned and post them soon (as in before we all turn 50 :-) )

Till the next time, stay well.

Ruben

Long over due.

First of all, did I ever reveal to anyone that my speciality is procrastination. Yup, that is so obvious that I'm only posting pictures of our Oct 27 mini gathering at Hong Kong Restaurant only now.

And also that I felt guilty after seeing Chu's recent posting about the gathering. Amid the good food and a few beers and stout, we had a great conversation that inevitably drifted towards our favourite subject of politics and politicians and more importantly as Chu said, about our proposed reunion in Sandakan next year.

It all began when Robert was sharing with us about he and his wife's move to buy over a bed and breakfast operation at Sepilok which we have since decided to call a resort.

In any case, we thought it would be good idea to have a reunion had have our families, a holiday trip so to speak. The reunion itself could be a barbecue at Robert's place with everyone being able to yak and yak - fuelled with beers and wine - till late without anyone worrying about the place closing.

I've been planning to take my family to the Rainforest Discovery Centre and this planned reunion could be just the thing for a short break during the school holidays.
Lu has suggested June, I think in response to Chu's posting, it's a good time, I think...

So how about it guys?

Anyway, here's some of the pictures I took at the Oct 27 gathering.

Reunion next year in Sandakan?

Dear friends,

We met up with Robert Ong and Benedict Teo in KK some time back. Was expecting Reuben to post something as he took some pictures. We discussed about where to have the next reunion, and are thinking to have it at Robert's place at Sepilok. Tuck Wing suggested camping (!!) Reuben would like to bring his family over for a holiday, with guided tour of the Rainforest Discovery Center by Robert, guess it's like an educational and back to nature holiday, cum reunion, all in one.

I noticed David Leong suggested July, guess he might be planning to come back around that time. Dave, how about June? I think school holidays will be in June - need the fathers/mothers to respond on that.

Cheers,
Chu

Pics found

Hey all,
It's great to see you guys posting stuff here. I haven't checked in for some time as I thought everyone was still keeping in contact through the email.
A few days ago, I found an album containing some of the class photos. And those pics are discolouring quite rapidly. So I've decided to get them scanned and post them here soon.

Thanks for the name correction Chu. But don't be surprised if I make the same mistake agains. Getting old and the grey matter that was already slow is crawling to a snail pace...sigh.

I met Robert last week at the orang utan conservation conference at Rasa Ria last week and he looked stressed over the bird festival to be held at the Sepilok Rainforest Discovery Centre (where he's the guy in charge) in about two weeks.

By the way, if you post anything please put your name at the end of the message so that we know it is. David, I realised it was you when said something about living in the States.

till the next time guys.

Looking Good 2

I think most of you didn't notice because you've seen him often, but Ruben also is slimmer than his schooling days. I almost didn't recognize him the first time I saw him after many years.

Although David Leong was not at the reunion, I must admit that he looked better than his schooling days as well.

Guys, admit it, your wives worked magic with you, hee hee. Your love for your wives motivated you to slim down and remain healthy:))

Cheers,
Chu

Can you relate??

Subject: Married Life !!!

* They say that marriage makes a man dizzy, and it's true.
As soon as I got a wife, I lost my balance at the bank.

* Men want 3 qualities in wives: Economist in kitchen, artist in home & devil in bed.
But they get artist in kitchen, devil in home & economist in Bed.

* Q: Why do women live longer than men?
A: Shopping never causes heart attacks, but paying the bill does!

* Before marriage: Roses are red, sky is blue. U r beautiful, I luv u.
After marriage: Roses are dead, I'm blue. U r my headache, one day I'll kill u.

* Getting married is very much like going to a restaurant with friends. You order what you want, and then when you see what the other person has, you wish you had ordered that.

* Man: Is there any way for long life?
Dr: Get married.
Man: Will it help?
Dr: No, but the thought of long life will never come.

* Why do couples hold hands during their wedding?
It's a formality just like two boxers shaking hands before the fight begins!

* Wife: Darling today is our anniversary, what should we do?
Husband: Let us stand in silence for 2 minutes.

Looking good!

Great pictures and looks like you guys are having fun. That's great. Like I have said earlier, I could have pick all of you guys out in a POLICE line up! I might have seen some of you in a police line up......He..He..He..

Next Reunion - Alex Lu voted as Leader

Hi Alex,

We were impressed with your 'vision' of the next reunion, and are waiting eagerly for you to take the lead :) By the way, some of us were very sure that your name was Elvis!

Great Blog!

Hi Ruben, thanks for starting the blog. I am sure you and our talented friends can make this into a great blog. Just for starters, some corrections to the names..Lu Kien Chee's surname is Lu, Gwen's full name, Gwendolen Vu, and Yapp Soon Phin (Phin with a 'h'). Ruel's name is Ruel Manluping, I think...I thought your name is spelt Reuben! So, hopefully the others can just double check as well.

Cheers,
Chu

A beginning

From left: Ruben Sario, Wong Tuck Wing, Yapp Soon Phin, Lu Kien Chee, Mike Govind, Benedict Teo, Phyllis Yap, Chu Wai Quan, Gwendolen Vu, Joseph Wong, Jewan Singh and David Foo.

Welcome to a blog for all St Mary's secondary form five science alumni of 1980. This is for us.

This blog is also the result of a mini reunion of 12 of us at the Shiok restaurant in 1Borneo on Sept 26.

All the while, we have been keeping in touch via email and personally I was having some difficulty in keeping track of who was saying what at times.

So at the reunion, I told Chu that it would be a good idea for us to have a blog where we could post messages, greetings, pictures, videos and links to other sites which we think the others might be interested in. This is possible as all of us would have the username and password to update and post things in this blog. And we could also comment on the postings, thus one way of keeping in touch with each other.

Since all of us posting stuff, I would suggest that whoever post anything put their names at the bottom so that we'll know who is saying what.

And so here it is, our own blog. For the first posting, I'm posting some pics I took at the reunion that was extra special as Jewan, Ben Teo and Yap Soon Pin took time to come to KK from Miri and Lahad Datu respectively just to be with us. Kudos to them.

Thanks to David Foo, there's not only photos of the event but also a video recording of it as well, it can be viewed here. And Wong Tuck Wing had an interesting Power Point take on the gathering in his email to us.

Here's some more pictures I took at the gathering.

The initial conversation was more focused on everybody catching up with each other. I think Wong Tuck Wing brought the class photo and the conversation drifted to those we have not met for 30 years, the names Chua Pui Bak, Ruel Manluping come to mind.

By the way Ben Teo's red eyes was because of my camera flash and not because he turned into some creature after years or rather decades in Lahad Datu (Sorry Ben, I couldn't resist that ; ) )

And after the unique individual style steamboat dinner, we adjourned to Starbucks where a very animated conversation as we chartered the future political direction of the country. Heh heh.

The gathering winded down at about midnight after we received some glares from the Star Bucks staff one of whom finally told us quite loudly that they had closed for the day.

Hopefully this reunion will lead to more gatherings and in between enable us to keep in touch.

Let's keep the torch of friendship among us alight.

Ruben
